Walmart, TikTok Shop or Shopify: Which Channel Should You Open After Amazon?
Amazon is working. What’s next? How Walmart Marketplace, TikTok Shop and your own Shopify store compare for established brands, and when to open each.

Once Amazon is working, the next question is usually where else to sell. Walmart, TikTok Shop and your own Shopify store are the three we get asked about most. They work very differently, and the right first move depends on your products and customers.
One rule first: open the next channel once Amazon is stable enough to copy, not before. A messy Amazon channel copied onto Walmart gives you two messy channels.
Walmart Marketplace
Best for: everyday household, outdoor, tools, food and practical products with search demand.
- Works much like Amazon: shoppers search, listings and price compete, and fulfillment speed matters.
- Typically less crowded than Amazon in many categories.
- Pricing consistency matters here too. Walmart compares prices across the web.
- Your Amazon listing work usually carries over, adapted to Walmart’s content standards.
Watch out for: approval requirements to sell, and underestimating how much listing and advertising work it still takes.
TikTok Shop
Best for: products that demonstrate well on video and appeal to impulse buyers.
- Sales come from content and creators, not from search.
- Affiliate creators can drive large spikes in short windows.
- It rewards brands that can produce and approve content quickly.
Watch out for: creators discounting your price, demand spikes your inventory can’t cover, and a very different workflow from Amazon. Not every established brand fits.
Your own Shopify store
Best for: brands with loyal customers, repeat purchases, strong content, or products that need explanation.
- You own the customer relationship and the data.
- Margin can be better with no marketplace fees, but you pay for your own traffic.
- It gives your brand an official home for pricing, product information and dealer lookups.
Watch out for: assuming customers will find you. A store without a traffic plan sits empty.
How to choose
| If your situation is… | Consider first |
|---|---|
| Search-driven, practical products doing well on Amazon | Walmart Marketplace |
| Visual products with broad consumer appeal | TikTok Shop |
| Loyal repeat customers, or products needing explanation | Shopify |
| Amazon pricing or listings still unstable | None yet. Fix Amazon first. |
Keep price consistent across all of them
Every new channel is another place your price can slip. A unilateral MAP policy that covers every channel protects both your margin and your retail relationships. See how to write a MAP policy and when retail partners find your product cheaper online.
How we handle it
In our first 90 days, the last stretch ends with an honest go or no-go on whether Walmart, TikTok Shop or Shopify is worth opening next, or whether Amazon still needs the attention. When a client is ready, we run the new channel the same way we run Amazon.
Frequently asked questions
Is Walmart Marketplace worth it for brands?
Often, especially for practical, search-driven products that already sell on Amazon.
Can established brands succeed on TikTok Shop?
Some can, especially with visual products. It depends on content capacity.
Do I need a Shopify store if I sell on Amazon?
Not always, but many brands benefit from an official home they control.
